Limited Assistance Representation
John Dugan participated as an educational panelist in the Massachusetts Bar Association's 2006 Annual Family Law Conference in October. The session involved instruction in limited assistance representation.
The Supreme Judicial Court has approved pilot programs for limited assistance representation in Hampden and Suffolk Counties. Lawyers participating in the pilots are required to undergo training in the new area of limited representation.
Mr. Dugan has served on a committee that has studied limited assistance representation in other states and helped to fashion the rules that will govern it in Massachusetts. Limited Assistance Representation is expected to make legal representation more affordable and provide access to justice for more people. After completion of the 18-month pilot programs, the goal is to make limited assistance representation available in all Probate and Family Courts in Massachusetts.
