Attorney Melissa Howitt concentrates her practice in the areas of elder law, estate planning, probate and trust administration, MassHealth planning, family law and domestic relations. Melissa has been appointed as Guardian and Conservator by the Probate and Family Court. Prior to joining Doherty, Ciechanowski, Dugan & Cannon, P.C. Melissa was an associate in a Chicago firm where her practice included adult guardianship, probate and trust administration, estate planning, special needs and long term care planning.
Melissa received her Juris Doctor and a Certificate in Health Law from Loyola University Chicago School of Law. While in law school, she was vice-president of the Elder Law Society, Senior Editor of the Annals of Health Law, a member of the Health Law Society and a recipient of the Institute for Health Law Academic Fellowship and Honors-at-Entrance academic scholarship, and a recipient of the CALI Excellence for the Future Award in both appellate advocacy and legal writing. Melissa received a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience and Behavioral Biology from Emory University.
Before attending law school, Melissa gained extensive research experience in the psychiatry department at a large university-affiliated hospital in Atlanta, Georgia, where her research efforts focused on late-life depression and mood-related disorders in patients with Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease.
Melissa currently lives in Wrentham with her husband, twin daughters, and twin sons..
